Online Passport Renewals: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports has recently introduced an electronic passport renewal service for passports with a validity of twelve months or less. This service, accessible through the Absher platform, enables eligible individuals to conveniently renew their passports.

The General Directorate of Passports, previously known as X on Twitter, had stated that passports needed to have a minimum validity of 6 months for renewal. Citizens looking to renew passports with validity periods exceeding 12 months due to specific circumstances like scholarship programs or work assignments must schedule an appointment at the directorate’s regional offices and provide relevant documentation to support their request.

Renewals Up to 12 Months

Furthermore, the Directorate highlighted that passports can be used for travel up to three months before expiry for Arab countries and up to six months for all other countries. It was also emphasized that the family record card is not a valid travel document, stressing the importance of carrying a valid passport or national ID when traveling.
