Makkah hotel fire kills 8 Pakistani Umrah pilgrims, A devastating fire at a hotel in Mecca has killed at least eight Pakistani Umrah pilgrims and injured several others.

Pakistan’s welfare consul confirmed the death toll and gave details that four deceased have been identified, two of whom were from Vihari and the other two from Kasur. The process of identifying the remaining bodies is currently underway.

The Pakistani Mission in Jeddah has initiated relief efforts in collaboration with local authorities.

In response to media inquiries regarding casualties, a Foreign Office spokesman admitted that the death toll had now reached eight, with six people currently receiving medical treatment for injuries.

Following the tragedy, Pakistan’s foreign ministry took swift and decisive action. “Our officials in Jeddah are working closely with local authorities to provide extensive support to the victims and their grieving families,” the spokesman assured, stressing the unwavering commitment to help those affected during this difficult time.

Expressing deep grief, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. A spokesman for the governor further assured: “Governor Tessori stands in unwavering solidarity with the families of the victims and offers them her support at this painful hour.”

Last year, approximately 200,000 pilgrims from Pakistan performed Umrah until 4 October 2022, from the start of the Umrah season on 30 July 2022. This was the second highest number of pilgrims after Indonesia.
